Ron has deep roots in West Vancouver, where he grew up and attended school. He serves clients across the Lower Mainland and on the Sunshine Coast, where he maintains a part-time office. With over 30 years’ experience, Ron has appeared in all levels of Court in British Columbia. He has extensive experience and success in both judge alone and jury trials, including multi-million dollar verdicts; however, Ron views the practice of law as much more than trials. Clients have many expectations when they retain lawyers and going to trial is usually a client’s last resort. More often clients want to resolve their legal problem quickly and efficiently without the cost and stress of Court. Ron tries to identify those expectations and works towards meeting those needs by engaging in creative negotiations or mediations that can result in better outcomes more cheaply than trials. While most cases do settle, Ron won’t hesitate to recommend the matter be resolved in Court when it is in his clients’ best interests.
In 2018-19, Ron served as President of the Trial Lawyers Association of BC (TLABC) and as a past president continues to play an active role in TLABC issues. He has served on numerous committees, the Board of Governors and the Executive since becoming a member in 1998.
Ron is a much in demand speaker at continuing legal education and trial lawyers seminars on a variety of topics including presenting expert evidence, discovery practice and the implied duty of confidentiality. He presents to doctors interested in ensuring their reports comply with the rules relating to expert evidence and actively contributes to legal publications.
Ron has lived in West Vancouver since 2010 where he enjoys everything this spectacular community has to offer. He is an avid sailor and spends time on the Sunshine Coast enjoying a summer retreat first owned by his grandparents almost 100 years ago.
A University of British Columbia graduate, Ron received degrees in both law and commerce in 1989. The challenges of law won him over and he began practicing civil litigation with an emphasis on major personal injury although Ron’s practice includes a mix of all types of litigation.
